Jump2it

The Jump2it programme is a health and citizenship initiative, targeting primary school pupils, aged 10+ delivered by professional role models from the Glasgow Rocks and qualified SSF coaches.

The aim of the programme is to promote an active and healthy lifestyle, encourage participation and good citizenship whilst highlighting the dangers of poor diet, smoking and alcohol abuse.  Professional athletes are used to engage with young people and emphasise the importance of the messages and the potential of a healthy body and mind.

As well as input from the Glasgow Rocks each school receives specific basketball coaching and an inter-school tournament.  The top 4 teams from each tournament make the finals showcase at a Live Pro-basketball game on the professional court at The Emirates Arena and in front of the 1000+ home crowd.

The winning school are crowned Jump2it champions and receive a video presentation at a school assembly in front of their peers, family and friends. At every stage of delivery health messages are reinforced and external evaluation has recorded significant increases in knowledge across J2it topics as well as increases in levels of physical activity across a range of activities.

All children involved in the programme are directed to local clubs if they want to continue their involvement in basketball or any other available sport. If no basketball club is accessible, SSF work to set up a participation session for these pupils. SSF currently have 14 ‘Rocks Community Clubs’ (RCC) running as well as a monthly competitions schedule.
