On 13th and 14th June 2015 Youth Scotland ran a Young People Taking the Lead weekend conference at Stirling University for young people who were keen to develop their leadership skills.
It was an event designed for young people, by young people, and the whole event was planned and coordinated by Young Advisors and Mentors from Stirling and Falkirk. The 2015 theme was ‘Inspiring Young People’ and attracted over 150 young people aged 14-25 from across Scotland. Mr Wheelhouse MSP, Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs, offered his time to address the young leaders and experienced a flavour of the enthusiasm and energy of the weekend.
The event enabled delegates to share their experiences through a number of different workshops designed to support young people developing their role as young leaders and volunteers. Our CashBack partner agencies, a range of National Youth Work agencies as well as National Governing Bodies were all invited to set out stalls describing the services and support that they can provide.
Over the course of the weekend the conference offered:
- Access to learning and training opportuniti
es, with over 30 workshops in a range of disciplines and areas of youth work to choose from, from Active Games and Fun, to Practical First Aid, to Conflict Resolution to Leading Comedy and Drama.
- Networking with young people, workers and volunteers.
- Marketplace with lots of free information and resources to take away.
