Eight young people graduated from the fifth successful Celtic Football Foundation’s Gateway to Employment course at a special celebration event at Celtic Park.
As well as being treated to lunch and entertained by Celtic legend, Berti Auld, the event was to mark the success of young people in turning their lives around, with all eight securing a positive destination to go onto.
James Montague a participant on Cashback Gateway to Employment said “I can’t say thank you enough for the experience I have had. I have gained a job, a college place and my digger license. Before I was on the project I was doing nothing with myself drinking and getting in trouble with police, so thank you very much for all the support and helping change my life”
The eight young people who competed the course successfully secured the followign positive destinations:
• 3 into paid training
• 2 into College
• 1 Gained Employment
• 1 awaiting start date for employment here at Celtic FC Foundation
• 1 volunteering part time
Whilst on the course participants took part in a variety of activities, ranging from employability sessions around CV building, personal branding, application form hints and tips, interview preparation and job searching techniques. Lifestyle workshops covering- drugs and alcohol, (provided by Glasgow Council on Alcohol) Healthy Eating and diet advice (Celtic FC Foundation) also on the project participants took part in physical activities and training sessions all delivered by Celtic FC Foundation Coaches. Participants completed BHF heart start certificates and Health and Safety in the work place training and two have completed their Digger License at DNT. Participants took part in a two day fire fighter taster course and sessions delivered by the SPS.
Guests included partner agencies who had delivered on the project such as Scottish Fire and Rescue, Scottish Prison Service, NHS Greater Glasgow and Jobs and Business Glasgow.
Speakers on the day included Donna-Marie Henry Head of Business Development and Projects at Celtic FC Foundation, Brian Nelis Watch Commander at Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Berti Auld Celtic FC. The highlight of the day was the presentation of certificates to the young people.
